York Photographic Society

This is the website of York Photographic Society, York's longest established photography club and indeed one of Britain's earliest photographic societies. New members are always welcome to this thriving, friendly and energetic camera club. Our meetings are held at the Poppleton Centre. Guests may join for an evening for a fee of £5 each.

Sue Leach

Retirement gave me the time and opportunity to start taking photographs which were more than just ‘holiday snaps’. My first camera was a compact Panasonic and it was images from this that began my camera club journey.
I joined Selby Camera Club in 2019 and began to feel confident enough to enter my images into club competitions. I also swapped my compact camera for a Canon DSLR and started to plan travel that linked to photography; there followed a trip to Georgia and the opportunity to photograph abandoned Society-era heritage buildings and I was hooked.
I joined York Photographic Society in 2023. I really enjoy club nights as the speakers can be quite inspirational and the competition nights are a great opportunity to put your photographic skills to the test.
I swapped my Canon DSLR for a lightweight compact OM5 which I am still getting to grips with.
