The YPS Season is Well Under Way...
The York Photographic Society programme continued with a series of Audio-Visual presentations by Tony and Marjorie Furmston. Tony and Marjorie both achieved their FRPS qualifications in AV back in the days when this required considerable expertise in slide manipulation. They would have used multiple slide projectors, tape decks and so on. They have found it much easier nowadays with laptops and digital, even though they still appeared at the Poppleton Centre with four large bags of equipment!
All of their presentations are done for 'Take Heart', the Leeds based cardiovascular health charity. Admirably, they have raised over £16,000 in recent years.
They showed both individual and joint AV presentations of their work, themed to music, and chiefly based in the United Kingdom. It was difficult to separate their individual approaches as they obviously have worked together so long that their approach is that of a team.
Some were very tightly themed whilst others covered specific events, such as a day on the banks of Derwent Water from Dawn to Dusk. Other presentations were pictorial, including some dating from their work in the pre-digital era.
All in all, the evening was an interesting illustration of a particular genre of photographic activity that only a few people have learned to master.
Next week, (Wednesday, 1st October), David Coates will be coming to YPS at the Poppleton Centre and showing us a Print Selection from the Northern Counties Salon.
As usual, we will be starting at 7.30pm. Tea and coffee will be available and you are welcome to join us in the Poppleton Centre bar afterwards. There is ample, free parking behind the Centre.
