The First YPS Competitions of the Current Season
Last week, John Saunders from York Camera Club expertly judged our first Competitions of the 2014/15 season - the Digital Projected Images Competition and the John Saville Rosebowl.
As in previous years, there is no subject for the Digital Image Competition but the John Saville Competition is restricted to images representative of the City of York.
John remarked on what a difficult job the judging was because of the high quality entries typical of YPS Members.
In the end though, the winning entry in the Digital Projected Image Competition was by Lewis Outing with a shot called "Rugby in the Rain". Congratulations to Lewis for a superb action shot.
The other placed images along with those receiving the awards of Commended and Highly Commended can be found here.
The winning entry in the John Saville Rosebowl Competition was "Recursion" by Russell Watkins, an image that should be familiar to some of you...
This week (Wednesday 10th December), YPS will be hosting Patrick Kaye who will be giving a talk entitled "In Polar Regions". You can read a little about Patrick here.
Patrick's visit will be the last formal talk of 2014; next week (Wednesday 17th December) is the "Mince Pie and Auction Night" after which we have the Christmas and New Year break.
You need to be on your toes though because Allan Highet will be expecting your entries for the Monochrome Print Competition on the first Wednesday back (7th January 2015) in the New Year! The Competition itself is on the 4th February and will be judged by John Reed.
York Photographic Society - York's longest established camera club - meet at the Poppleton Centre on Wednesday evenings from September to May. The Poppleton Centre is easily accessible and there is ample free parking. Tea & coffee is served during or after the meeting and there is a bar at the centre where we put the World to rights after the meeting closes.
