This week at York Photographic Society - October 8th, 2014
Quite a few York Photographic Society members now have image galleries to view on the website. The latest additions are those of Harry Silcock, Joy Parry, Mike Blackman and Allan Highet. Other members with galleries are David Beverley, Mary Chatburn, Alison Taylor, Roger Mockridge, Ian Woods, Russell Watkins, Derek Chatburn, Morris Gregory, Allan Harris, Chris Hart and John Illingworth.
We always welcome images from our members to showcase our work. Contact Webmaster Russell Watkins via this Contact Page for details.
Moving on to Wednesday's presentation, YPS will be entertained by our very own Lewis Outing who will be giving a presentation titled, "Jerusalem in May". You can read a little about what we can look forward to here.
The following week (15th October), will be a Project Night when YPS members will be presenting images on the theme of Water. So you've just over a week to put together up to 5 images. There can be no excuses; we've all got taps, the forecast is for a wet week and York has a few rivers to choose from. So get snapping.
For new members or those of you who are thinking of joining as members, Project Nights are informal evenings where we present digital images on a given theme. The photographer can explain a little about how the image was taken and why they took it and other members can ask questions and offer suggestions in an open forum. So, audience participation is essential.
For Project Nights, digital images should be resized to be no more than 1400 pixels along the horizontal edge and 1050 pixels along the vertical edge. The sRGB colour space should be used with images saved as JPEG files. Bring your images along on a USB thumb drive on the night.
We'll try and put at least one image per member on the website from those who submit images for a Project Night. For this reason, give your images filenames that include your own name [e.g. Ansel-Adams-1] for Project images (this is not the case for Competition entries!) and if there's an image you'd particularly like to go on the website, put a 'W' after the number [e.g. Ansel-Adams-2W].
Project Nights are probably our most popular evenings and is seen by our members as one of the ways that YPS membership improves our photography.
A reminder that we meet at the Poppleton Centre on Wednesday evenings from September to May. Poppleton Centre is easily accessible and there is ample free parking. Tea & coffee is served and there is a bar at the centre where we have a bit of a social chit-chat at the end.
