York Photographic Society

New Season Starts 6th September. Full 2017-2018 programme published

This is the website of York Photographic Society, York's longest established photography club and indeed one of Britain's earliest photographic societies. New members are always welcome to this thriving, friendly and energetic camera club.

On the 22nd October 2014, York Photographic Society Committee Member Russell Watkins will be giving a demonstration and presentation entitled "Flash: Embrace that Syncing Feeling".

Russell will cover the various methods of flash synchronisation along with flash exposure considerations and how and when to use a few simple modifiers. The main thrust of the talk will be to emphasise how easy it is to shoot with just one off-camera flash in manual mode using relatively inexpensive grip. He will be accompanied by his faithful model, Eric.

Russell describes himself as a "Ukulele playing, bass singing, rugby loving, Speedlighting, language fondling, nature watching, vegan doctor-turned-photographer gent". His photographic interests are eclectic but he particularly enjoys street photography, wildlife photography and portraiture.

His main photographic influences are Zack Arias, Patrick LaRoque, Nick Brandt and Rankin though he's partial to anything really. It goes without saying that Vivian Maier has just appeared on his radar.

He also shoots stock for various image libraries, mainly in the fields of wildlife & nature photography, medical paraphernalia and unreleased editorial photography.
